Cupping Discolourations
The most common misconception concerning Cupping is the misinterpretation of the marks sometime resulting from the treatment. These discolourations are not Bruises!!
When injuries occur deep within muscles, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises. There will also be edema (swelling) in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins. The combination of these elements usually result in stagnation of circulation in the area -- This results in pain, dysfunction and chronic conditions/pain.
When circulation is sluggish or compromised in an injured or diseased area of the body, insufficient oxygen get to the cells, resulting in a local build up of waste products.
The suction pulls toxic & stagnant fluids from deep within the tissues (Muscles, Fascia, Connective Tissue, Organs and Joints) to the skin's surface. The colour, amount, shape and speed of what emerges varies according to the severity of the stagnation. The colours can range from a light pink to a dark purple-black, but they are usually a shade of red. Often a clear fluid is drawn to the surface, this is the result of disease and toxins being removed from deep within the tissues.
Cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from deep within, bringing them to the surface and away from the injury so that healthy free circulation can be restored to the affected area, therefore making space for oxygen, living cells and nutrition for faster recovery.
Although these 'marks' make look painful, something like a bruise, they are not. Patients often feel an immediate sense of relief, warmth and change.
